What a fantastic villa and what a fantastic location. We have just returned from two weeks in this great location, in total our party was 7. As it has been mentioned before the villa is approximately 90 minute drive from Dalaman airport, however the transfer was fantastic.
Once at the villa we were welcomed by Ahmet who showed us round, and then left us to our own devices. All the rooms are en-suite which is fantastic and is well spread out over three floors. The living space is well used and allows a group the size of ours your own space if needed. The views are stunning looking out towards the sea in the distance and mountains beyond that. The pool and sun lounge area has been extended since the photos on the site, so we have added come new ones. Again this space is superb, allowing for plenty of room for all.
We did not hire a car for the time we were there, so all trips were by taxi, which was not a bad thing. We managed to use a regular taxi, and with modern tech WhatsApp was the best way to communicate to all. As it mentions it is a twenty minute car journey from the villa to Kalkan.
Most of the food shops are at the top end of the town, we first went to Carrefour to buy the shopping, however found out quickly that this is a waste of time. Unlike the UK, the independent shops are the place to go. There are some superb greengrocers, bakeries and butchers all were better value than the supermarkets. The only supermarket we did use was the Akan one. The main reason is the butcher inside was superb. The variety of meat and value was incredible. Having looked on line for something similar in the UK we would have had to pay near 3 to 4 times the amount.
If you enjoy a good barter then the market on the Thursday is good fun, and pretty much has everything for you to dress yourself from head to foot in labels. However if you are a foody, then out the back are some stalls selling local produce including olive oil, olives, cheese etc. all very local.
If you do fancy a walk out of the villa, a sturdy pair of trainers is needed, for a shorter walk go to the main road and head up the hill, it is about a 30 minute walk to the small local store, there is also a great little restaurant called “The Café Restaurant”, service is superb and great value for money. You would be looking at double if not more for the same menu down in Kalkan.
For the guys if you fancy a Turkish barber experience I can recommend Sweeney Todd’s on the main street. So much so that I went twice. For a double shave, haircut, massage was all but £10. From there you can head down through the winding streets of Kalkan old town and out to the harbour and sit relax and have a local Efes or a cocktail.
Overall a great place to go and chill out, do nothing, eat great food and enjoy the scenery.
